THE ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE STORY
Your cooperative is different from investor owned utility companies. Your co-op is member owned and offers a wide range of benefits. Members get to vote for the director that will represent their area. And, as a non profit organization members receive capital credits. All revenues in excess of expenses (called margins) are allocated (spread) back to each consumer-member who contributed revenues that year. To learn more about co-ops a video was produced by NRECA featuring a fast hand-drawn guide to the history, structure, and purpose of rural electric cooperatives.
