THE ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE STORY

Your cooperative is different from investor owned utility companies.  Your co-op is member owned and offers a wide range of benefits.  Member owners get to vote for the director that will represent their area.  And, as a non-profit organization members owners receive capital credits.  All revenues in excess of expenses (called margins) are allocated (spread) back to each member owner who contributed revenues that year.  To learn more about co-ops a video was produced by NRECA featuring a fast hand-drawn guide to the history, structure, and purpose of rural electric cooperatives.
